At HBH Therapy, we believe that connection matters—not just with clients, but with the people who make up our team. Sierra Estes, a dedicated clinician at our Franklin, MA office, values the strong sense of community she finds here.

Sierra is just as excited to join us as we are to have her. On her first day, she was delighted to see that her new coworkers spoke so highly of the company and that they genuinely enjoy their work and support one another.

We hope you get to know Sierra as we have and if you like her as much as we do, request an appointment with her in Franklin!

A Path Rooted in Purpose

Sierra’s journey into mental health therapy began with her desire to help people. During her undergrad at Rutgers University, while initially exploring a medical path and even a surgical internship, she realized there was still something missing.

She wanted a more personal way to help people, and help them towards meaningful change in their lives. This is when she discovered Rutgers’ social work program and saw how it connected her personal experiences with her professional goals.

Sierra went on to earn her Bachelor’s in Social Work through a 4+1 program in 2020 and later completed her Master’s degree at Simmons University.

Making the Change

Her graduate training included a field placement at Worcester Community Health Center, where she served as a behavioral health provider integrated into primary care.

Her role was to be the “warm handoff” to help patients make the connection from their physical health to their mental health, and ensure smooth transitions into care.

In working with under-resourced populations, Sierra learned how to balance validating clients’ challenges while supporting growth. She understands that basic needs often take priority and can impact mental health.

Sierra felt confident in her skills and decided to transition to outpatient therapy, where she could help people in more in-depth one-on-one sessions. She wanted the time to truly support clients in processing their experiences, building resilience, and making meaningful progress that she could see through to the end.

A Flexible and Collaborative Counseling Approach

Sierra’s counseling style is highly flexible and collaborative, designed to fit each client’s unique life and needs. She intentionally neutralizes the traditional power dynamic of therapy, creating a space where clients feel safe sharing their experiences without judgment.

Sierra draws from a blend of evidence-based techniques, including CBT, solution-focused therapy, motivational interviewing, and DBT-informed coping skills, and adapts her approach as needed.

Therapy, in her view, is about helping clients find meaning in the “mess” of life, untangling the challenges like a knot in a big ball of yarn—slowly, carefully, and collaboratively.

For Sierra, the most rewarding part of therapy is witnessing clients’ growth and transformation: “Seeing people succeed, make progress, and become a better version of themselves is humbling and motivating.”

What Clients Can Expect in the First Session

Clients visiting Sierra for therapy in Franklin, MA, can expect an open, curious, and nonjudgmental space. She prioritizes understanding clients’ goals, experiences, and perspectives, creating an environment where they can be themselves without censoring their thoughts or feelings.

Sierra understands that trust takes time, and she approaches each session with warmth, humility, and a genuine desire to support growth.

She also recognizes that being young can make some apprehensive, but she finds this a unique advantage in her practice. She can connect easily with younger clients and adapt to a wide range of ages and experiences. She also draws on her education, training, and internship experiences to instill confidence in clients while remaining approachable and relatable.
