Connection is Key: Meet Jennifer Jobert, LMHC

January 14, 2026

At HBH Therapy, we believe that strong therapeutic relationships are built on trust, compassion, and meeting people exactly where they are. One of the newest members of our team, Jennifer Jobert, LMHC, embodies these values in both her professional journey and her approach to care. With over 16 years of experience in substance use and co-occurring mental health treatment, Jennifer brings depth, warmth, and authenticity to her work with clients at our Wilbraham, MA office.

A Calling Rooted in Compassion

Jennifer has known since a young age that she wanted to be a therapist. Having seen firsthand the stigma surrounding mental health and addiction within her own family and community, Jennifer wanted to be the person that people felt safe talking to and weren’t afraid to ask for help, and she often was.

Jennifer earned her undergraduate degree in General Psychology from Bay Path College. She initially envisioned working primarily with couples and families and went on to complete her Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy at Springfield College.

However, her career began with more diverse populations, and Jenn realized she had the ability to expand her skills to a wide range of individuals, concerns, and life experiences.

Growing Through Experience

Jennifer had a great opportunity through her connections in grad school that led her to spend 16 years in outpatient substance use treatment with co-occurring mental health disorders. As an intern, she began with case management and co-facilitating groups, and eventually worked as a counselor with individuals, couples, and families.

She also worked extensively with clients who were court-mandated to attend therapy. Learning how to connect and engage with people who may not necessarily want to participate strengthened her confidence, adaptability, and rapport-building skills.

This experience and the skills gained are highly influential in her practice today, especially with clients who may be unsure about therapy.

An Eclectic Style

Jennifer describes her counseling style as eclectic and person-centered. She recognizes that no two clients, even with similar concerns, benefit from the exact same approach, and instead utilizes a wide range of therapeutic tools and techniques.

Jennifer determines what works and what doesn’t through her close attention to body language, energy, and emotional cues. With clients who are anxious, guarded, or reserved, she may be calmer and more patient. With higher-energy clients, she might incorporate humor, banter, or a more animated style. Her goal is always to meet clients where they are and help them move toward where they want to be.

Jennifer believes that therapy is a partnership, one that fosters trust, authenticity, and real connection. She does not see herself as above or “knowing better” than her clients. Instead, she approaches therapy as a peer, someone walking alongside, learning from clients just as they learn from her.

What Clients Can Expect in the First Session

In the first session, Jennifer prioritizes connection and understanding. Much of the time is spent getting to know the client, their story, and what brought them to therapy. She uses thoughtful, appropriate self-disclosure when helpful and places strong emphasis on normalizing experiences that often can come with shame or embarrassment.

Jennifer wants to instill hope and confidence in her clients while also empathizing with how hard and overwhelming it can be. She reminds them that they’re not the only one who feels this way or are experiencing this; that she has seen this before and knows how to help.

Settings Goals and Moving Forward

Jennifer views clients as the experts on their own lives. Goals start with what the client wants, not what therapy “should” look like. If goals feel too broad, such as “I don’t want to be sad anymore,” Jennifer helps clients refine those sentiments into realistic, measurable steps by exploring what life would look like if things felt better and how to move toward that vision.

She also intentionally avoids overly technical language. Rather than labeling interventions as “CBT” or “DBT,” she introduces them as practical ideas or tools that clients can actually use. And when something doesn’t work, she doesn’t consider it a failure but a learning moment. She normalizes this by sharing that coping skills don’t work universally, and that part of therapy is adapting tools so they truly fit the individual.
