We cannot change, we cannot move away from what we are, until we thoroughly accept what we are. Then change seems to come about almost unnoticed.” -Carl Rogers

Counseling Style

Jessica’s approach to therapy is based off of a client centered and trauma informed perspective. Her belief is the client is the one in the driver’s seat and the clinician is the passenger, helping guide and support where the client wants to go. Jessica believes that the client takes on an active and direct role in their own treatment and lives, while the clinician helps guide and support that journey. Jessica’s perspective is to empower the client to increase self-awareness and understanding through an array of modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy. Working from a trauma informed care perspective, Jessica believes in focusing on the shift from “what’s wrong with you”, to “tell me more about what you experienced.” Supporting a trauma aware approach, Jessica also believes in body, mind, and spirt being treated collectively to promote balance in all areas of the client’s life. Trauma, as well as many other mental difficulties, do not only affect the mind, but also the body and personal belief system. Her belief is growth in all three areas can greatly improve many symptoms of mental anguish and life stressors.

Experience

Jessica received her graduate degree from Grand Canyon University with her master’s in Professional Counseling and post-master’s degree in Trauma Counseling. Jessica has experience working with adults in both inpatient and outpatient settings while treating an array of disorders such as anxiety, depression, PTSD and other trauma and stressor disorders, OCPD, ADHD, grief and loss, and substance use and addictive disorders among many other struggles.
